Segregate is a process that provides a glimpse of flooring redefinition while discussing the meaning of intimacy and privacy
In collabration with Bolon during 'Down to Earth' workshop by Pierre Favresse in Domaine de Boisnuchet
Concept
The project was hosted in conjunction with Swedish flooring company Bolon as part of the their innovative process to explore new possibilities of the material which was generously provided during the workshop.
The concept was inspired by Japanese Architect Sou Fujimoto in his previous workshop 'Nature Room' at Domaine de Boisbuchet where the participants installed numerous frames throughout the estate to discuss new relationships between nature and architecture and explore the idea of intimacy within openness. Among all, one of the door frame which was placed near the river that divide the open uncovered grassland and the dense tree-covered riverbank has resonated with my idea of flooring - separation
The floor has traditionally been a medium to divide spaces while serving functional purpose as the floor in the bathroom is often cold and tough compare to the warmth and comfy floor laid in the living room where contrasts are formed.
The installation is constructed out of wooden frame, with two colours of Bolon floor mat which was transformed from flat surfaces to meaningful forms. Segregate was intended to placed on the edge of waterfront with entrance facing the castle and swing chair to the river to contrast the beauty established by both nature and human while at the same time,  reflect on the idea of Sou Fujimoto's creating intimacy within openness.
